Hello it’s me NCR here with another episode of The SunShining podcast. If you noticed last week was a little bit different. Hey aren’t all my episodes different. (Also, it was an audio only episode.) Follow me on Medium to read podcast notes or better yet sign up for the SunShining newsletter on medium to have the SunShining podcast notes delivered straight to your inbox. Today I’m gonna put myself through the same thing that I put my last few guest through. I am going to be asking myself some questions about Carmel. What is one reason you decided to go to Carmel? Um. It something I pondered for a few years. I just wanted to go a Bible college. I was looking for something cheap. Also, something else that highly impacted my decision to go to Carmel as working at Riverside Bible Camp. Carmel has a camp team that goes around to various Bible camps throughout the Summer. I was pared with someone from Carmel for 3 years in row. For example, one year someone from Carmel was my cabin leader. The next year we were co-leaders. What a condense. If that wasn’t a sign that I should go to Carmel I don’t know what was. What is one of your favorite memories from Carmel? I am an introvert so I normally like to hang out by myself. But one of my favorite memories from Carmel is just hanging out with so many amazing people. What was one of your biggest take-aways from Carmel?

Productively looking back Looking ahead to the next big thing and asking yourself “What should I do next/now?” Is good. But sometimes you hit a low spot. And you don’t feel like doing anything. You don’t feel like looking ahead. When you get to a spot like that, it's time to look back. Look back on your life, look back at the past year, month, or week. And asked yourself What have I done? What are some productive things I did? What was the best thing I did with my time? And may looking back give you the energy to go forward. Well, that is it for today’s daily SunShine. Please take a while to think about what you read and heard from me here at the SunShining. This is just one of the many things I wrote on productivity. I did a whole productivity series on the last season of the Cemetery Reflection podcast. In the last post here, I said I was moving my blog to medium. It's just pieces like this I can't decide where to post them. I may occasionally post things here. But yes, I am still moving my Blog to medium. So, you will want to make sure you follow: medium.com/the-sunshining. The SunShining blog has gone through a lot of changes over the years. I have also created many blogs over the last few years. And 2021 is bring another change. I have recently fallen in love with a platform called medium. And I will be switching all my blogs and writing over to medium. One of my new year resolutions is to write around a 1000 words a week. And in the last 2 weeks I have written more than that, and published over 10 different post on Medium. You may be wondering what I have been writing. I have been writing tech related stuff, inspirational thought provoking stuff and film reviews. I just about wore myself out writing. I might be starting strong, I sure hope I will be able to write a 1000 words a week all year long. Some things I plan to write include bible study related posts and fictional stories. What about guest posts? If you are interested in submitting a post to the SunShining blog you can still do that. If you are a writer on medium you can submit posts to The SunShining publication. So where can you find my 2021 writings: My medium profile: medium.com/@nonresistant. The SunShining on Medium: medium.com/the-sunshining. Nonresistant Film Reviews: medium.com/nonresistant-film-reviews. Tech with Nonresistant: medium.com/tech-with-nonresistant. SunBible: medium.com/sunbible. Read, study, and memorize Psalm at: https://the-sunshining.github.io/SunBible/Psalm/MemorizePsalm-index.html Get Psalm desktop wallpaper at: https://the-sunshining.github.io/SunBible_IMG_Library/SunBible_wallpaper_img/wallpaper.html You can download any of these images to use as desktop wallpaper! If you are unaware of what 150 days of Psalm is...
it's my 2021 new year resolution to spend the first 150 days of 2021 in the book of Psalm. And I invite you to join me. You can find the Psalm playlist on youtube: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLg1iiuC4_3Ya1ELtKHXf1lUlXmmIb59M7 There was a time when I had four blogs.
There was also a time when I did a lot more writing. I now only have one blog and don't do as much writing. I am looking for writers who want to submit guest posts. But that is another story. Part of the reason I had four blogs is because of the diversity of my content. But I am bringing all that together in The SunShining blog. So what can you find on the SunShining blog? You can find inspiration for life. You can find stories, some true and some fictional. You can find tips and advice. You can find encouragement and hope. You can and will probably find lots of Bible blog post. (And if you would like to submit a guest post you can contact me at: [email protected]) I really love new years and new year resolutions. One of the things I am doing this year is starting the year with 150 days of Psalm. What does that mean and what will that look like? It means that I will be spending the first 150 days of 2021 in the Psalm. I will be releasing a new Psalm video to youtube every day for the first 150 days of 2021, and maybe a blog every day too. I invite you to join me. Let's spend the first 150 days of 2021 in Psalm. It doesn't matter if you join late. Psalm playlist on youtube: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLg1iiuC4_3Ya1ELtKHXf1lUlXmmIb59M7 You can also find out more about this by listening to The SunShining Podcast. ----- Also, Christmas is coming up. Have you recently read through the gospels? You can do so at: https://the-sunshining.github.io/SunBible/TheLifeofJesusMinistry/index.html When I was younger, I read this book titled "Do Hard Things". And it was a book about rebelling against low expectations. It was a book for young people. I know I'm still young. But when I was younger, I feel like I didn't care about what other people expected of me. There was a time in my life before I had a phone that I spent about an hour in God's word a day. This summer I've had morning devotions with my phone. And let me tell you something it wasn't the same as it was a few years ago. (If you are a young person let me tell you something: Connect with God while you are still young, and don't allow your phone and social media to distract you.) I just kind of don't care what people expected me and I be my own self and that makes me different. Most of the time I go beyond and above what people expect of me. I feel like I've been like the easiest child to raise. But you know there are times in life when I don't feel like rebelling against low expectations. There are times when I don't feel like going above and beyond. There are times when I don't feel like having daily Bible study. Higher expectations of me can't really push me to do more and achieve more. But if you just have low expectations for me, I may just settle into them. Working hard achieving more instead of the Bible daily takes effort. Why would I want to put effort into those things if you don't expect me to? So, I'm just begging you. Please don't have low expectations of young people. (And don't have annoyingly high expectations. I know teens can be hard to please!)
Attachment. Is something neither good or bad. It's what you are attached to that can be good or bad. Attachment is a very healthy and necessary part of life. Attachment. Un-attachment. God made us with the ability and the need to get attached to things and people. Because we have both the ability and the need to get attached to things or people. We will. The hard part comes when it is time to get unattached. Un-attaching yourself from things can be very difficult and it is a very emotional thing to do. Your attachment to one thing or person can affect your attachment to another thing a person. And you're unattachment can affect how you get attached to people or things in the future. Attachment Health I am not a relationship professional, but here are some tips:
What about tips for attachment to things:
Maybe I am taking it too far when I say that you can get attached to things in your schedule. But I know I don't feel right if I don't start my day with a little Bible study. Whether it is attachment to something in your schedule or something that is a part of your daily routine. I encourage you to think about it. Is there something you should remove from your schedule? Is there something you should add to your schedule? Do you find your days are busy and hectic? Scheduling and living a simpler life is a whole other topic. Attachment Theory. I just love the two words: attachment theory. So of course I had to Google it and write about it. The first sentence on Wikipedia states: "Attachment theory is a psychological, evolutionary and ethological theory concerning relationships between humans." I know that throughout this piece I have been using a lot of big words. I might have made attachment sound like a very impersonal thing. But in reality it is a very personal thing. And not only that it is a very emotional thing. ---------- Connection is a present or current attachment. Attachment can be spiritual, emotional or physical. Verses
My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck. Proverbs 6:20-21 KJV And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. Colossians 3:14 KJV He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord . Psalms 112:7 KJV But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. Mark 10:6-8 KJV I have been working on this story for about 2 months. I just want to thank all my family members for inspiring this story!!!! The Camp Bluejay
They say every school has a bully. I think every camp must have a Bluejay. Hello, my name is Blue. I am not blue though!!! I am actually always quite happy. I live at Figure Eight lake. There is a nice sandy beach, a trail around the lake, camp spots, a playground, and multiple picnic tables for people to use during the day. One day... A large family went camping. They showed up in a minivan with the side door half open. The first to climb out were two twin boys. Those are the most mischievous kind. And these two looked pretty mischievous. They took off running as soon as their feet hit the ground. Next out of the vehicle was mommy and daddy, the twin boy's sister, and then grandpa and grandma. It seems like everybody brings something unique, when they go camping. This family was no different. Grandma brought her knitting. Grandpa brought his fishing pole. Daddy brought his work. Mommy brought their cat. The little girl brought her favourite doll. And the two twin boys brought their pranks(No joke). I would have to watch out for that cat. But I also wanted to keep an eye out for any food this family might leave laying around (Families are especially well known for leaving lots of food and trash around). The first evening was pretty uneventful, except for… Well it was nothing much. The twins were having fun pulling out tent pegs while their dad and grandpa were putting up the tent. Dad and grandpa started on one side, and went around the tent together putting in tent pegs to hold the tent down. After they went around the corner of the first side the two little twin boys snuck toward the tent and started pulling out tent pegs. I could tell this was going to be a pretty eventful weekend. Dad and Grandpa got back to where they started but they didn't see tent pegs in. So around they started again. They ended up going around the tent a few times. Lucky for them the two twin boys got tired of going around pulling out tent pegs. The two boys went into the woods a little ways to laugh. Finally their Dad and Grandpa got done with the tent. ------------------- Everyone knows fishing is best in the early in the morning. So grandpa woke up at about 5:30 to do some early morning fishing. (I don't often use big words, but I have always wanted to use unbeknownst) Unbeknownst to him his twin grandboys heard him get up and they thought to themselves lets play a prank on grandpa while he is fishing. So they both got up and snuck after Grampa towards the lake. They started throwing rocks into the lake. Grandpa thought the fish were jumping. So he quickly got his line in. But he never got a single bite all morning, though the fish kept jumping. At breakfast Grandpa told about his fishing, the twins barely kept from laughing. After breakfast the family decided to take a walk around the lake. They should have cleaned the table better before they left. I saw this as my opportunity to get a bite to eat. After quickly eating a bit I decided to start flying around the lake to see where the family was. I found them about halfway around the lake. The two boys were begging to go for a swim. The parents said when they finished the walk. I saw the two boys look at each other mischievously and then they took off running ahead. "Don't go too far ahead", yelled both parents. As soon as the boys were out of sight one jumped in the bushes and hid. The other went a little farther and did the same thing. When their family got between them the boys started making bear sounds. The family was so scared and they didn't know what way to go. So they jumped into the lake. The two boys came running out of the bushes and jumped in too. And swam after their family all the way across the lake. For lunch the family had spaghetti and meatballs. Seriously who are these people? This is literally like my favorite meal. Anyway in the afternoon Grandma decided to do some knitting. Seeing their grandma reminded the boys of lunch. Or more precisely what they had for lunch. Spaghetti. Grandma's knitting yarn looked just like spaghetti noodles. And that gave the boys an idea. So they went and secretly got the leftover spaghetti from lunch. They quickly wound it up to look like a ball of knitting yarn. And silently switched out Grandma's knitting yarn with the ball of spaghetti. Because Grandma didn't have very good eyes she couldn't tell the difference between the ball of spaghetti and her knitting yarn. So she picked it up and started knitting with it. She thought it felt funny but she didn't think much of it. I probably don't have to tell you how her knitting turned out. (terrible) In the evening the family had a nice campfire. Dad was doing a little work. And grandpa and grandma were sitting by the fire holding hands. Mother was just out taking an evening stroll. The twins were as usual thinking up mischief. They noticed that the campfire made the shadows appear large on the tent. Their little sister who had to go to bed early was in the tent sleeping. One of the boys snuck in and grabbed her doll, waking her a little. The other grabbed the cat. They both banged on the side of the tent a little bit. When they were certain the little sister was fully awake. One threw the cat toward the tent. The shadow of the cat was so huge. The cat landed with a soft thud on the tent. Their little sister screamed. She started crying for mother. They mimicked their mother's voice. Said "I'm coming". And threw the little doll toward the tent. Then they both laughed wickedly. Not much happened after that evening. The next day the family packed up and went home. Before you go. I just want to ask you a few questions. Who is the real bluejay of the story? What character are you most like? Light versus Darkness Good versus Evil These last few months I've really been thinking a lot about light and darkness, good and evil. A few months ago when I first started thinking about it and had already been thinking about it for a few months I was thinking about writing something on it but I don't remember if I ended up publishing any of my thoughts or a blog post on it. Stories of light versus darkness and good versus evil can be found in books and movies. In March and April I started watching a lot of movies. In April I got a 7 day free trial of disney plus and so I ended up watching about 30 movies that week. Now when you are watching movies, as well as when you are reading books, you can watch for just entertainment reasons or you can watch to learn. I try to watch with an open mind ready to learn. Also besides watching movies I read a few really good books on the topic too. "Dust" and "The girl who could see" are both really good and both by the same author. Here are some conclusions I came to about light, darkness, good, and evil over the last few months: (in no particular order) Evil will never really last. For those of you who don't exactly believe in a good God here is some food for thought. A truly evil person is really greedy. A greedy person always wants more and more. They can never get enough. They are like vacuum, empty. My opinion: truly evil beings will self-destruct. At one point they might be beautiful, but in the end I think they will be black holes. If God was evil he would eventually self destruct. Also the world as we know it, all the beauty, wouldn't exist. No part of God is evil, He is all good. What makes someone evil? God created the very first people good. Then they sinned because they were lied to. I think also the reason people hurt today is because they have been hurt. Hurt people hurt people. Light is more powerful than the dark. I was at a prayer meeting earlier this year(before covid-19). And at this prayer meeting we looked at a candle and we were supposed to make observations about light. And I have been thinking about light vs. darkness ever since. Light is more powerful than the dark. Sure there may be more darkness than light(more evil than good). And even close to the light darkness can hide, between cracks and behind walls. But that is the key word here. Darkness cannot stand in front of light. It must hide, it must flee when the light comes. Light needs energy to be powerful. Darkness can never be powerful. Light has a source. The farther you are from that source the less light you see. The more darkness surrounds you. When you are from the light it can be easy to believe false things about the light. ------------------ I hope you enjoyed reading my thoughts. If you have been broken? If you have been hurt? If you have been lied to? I encourage you to come to the light. If you liked this blog post you may also like the SunShining Podcast. Hi, its me N.C.R. here again. I bet you can guess what I did yesterday. So I will just tell you. I ordered a proof copy for the updated version of my book "Milking Reflections". I stated writing that book in 2017 and published it as "Milking Devotional".
You can find out more about the book and read parts of it at: the-sunshining.github.io/MilkingRelections/ ------ Today I just wanted to share a few inspriation thoughts that I have been think about recently. |
Is there ever a time you shouldn't pray?
It depends.
I think the correct answer is that there is never a time we should not pray.
But…
Do you want to pray?
Should you pray when you don't feel like it?
Do you want God to do something big?
Are you afraid of what God will and can do if you pray?
Do you have faith in God?
Should you pray when you have hate in your heart?
Should you pray when you have unforgiveness in your heart?
Should you pray for something when you don't actually want something?
Are you willing to do anything else, besides pray, for what you want?
And speaking of praying for things…
Should you pray to God if all you are going to do is ask for one more thing?
Should you pray to God when you are angry?
Change is normal.
Change can be quick and slow.
Change can be good or bad.
Only truly good change can happen when God is behind the change.
Change can't be stopped.
Change is necessary.
Going forward through change takes strength.
Hi, it's me N.C.R. again here with another blog post about being productive. Today I will be talking about the productive hour. You can do much more in an hour than you can in a minute. But there are only 24 hours in a day.
----------------
Well that is I wrote, but I talk about the productive hour for about 10 minutes!
Hi, it's me N.C.R. again here with another blog post about being productive. Today I will be talking about the productive minute. You can do much more in a minute than you can in a second.
What are some things you can do in a minute?
You can pray.
You can read the Bible.
I know those two things may not sound like the most productive things on the earth. But they are. In the Bible, we are commanded to pray without ceasing. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much(James 5:16). So yes prayer is something you can do in a minute. But it is also something that should last longer than a minute.
And Bible reading is also something that is important and reading your Bible should be considered a productive use of your time. Definitely, it is something you can and should do for a few minutes each day. But if you can it would even be better if you could spend about an hour a day or more reading the Bible. I know I don't.
You can think about being productive.
I know this blog post may not have been as good as the first blog post on productivity. But that is ok. I have some good stuff coming about productivity. I have been thinking about it a lot in the last few weeks and will continue to think about it for the next few weeks. I think that thinking about productivity can be a first step to becoming more productive. And sure spending some time thinking about productivity is good, but don't spend all your time thinking. Thinking should lead to actions.
"Wasting a lot of time starts by wasting a small amount of time."
I think the simple answer to that is no. No, the church does not need more godly resources. So many godly resources have already been created by so many amazing people. And as the founder of The SunShining I love discovering more godly resources. And because I love discovering more godly resources, I am discovering more all the time. Also as the founder of The SunShining I love creating more godly resources. I know that I said the church does not need more godly resources. But more godly resources don't hurt.
What the church does need though is more godly men, godly woman, godly teens, and godly children. But how do we get more godly people? I think by creating and sharing godly resources.
"Do what you like, Like what you do."
I think that it is not necessarily Christian advice.
But I do believe that God created each of us unique and that he has a purpose and a plan for our lives.
And I believe that God's plan and purpose for us is something we will like and enjoy doing.
But I also think it takes maturity to know what we really like and to know what God's plan for our lives is.
I would love to help you publish or share your writings.

Hi, my name is N.C.R. (and I am here at the Hillview cemetery with another cemetery reflection).
When is the last time you have had a reality check?
Life is short, but it is long enough to experience things like rain.
It can't always be nice out.
And life is short, but it is long enough to do a reality check.
Where are you?
Who are you?
Who are you becoming?
Where are you headed?
Three tips for going through hardships
Experiencing hardships and pain is hard.
Finding the strength to go through them is even harder. Here are three tips for going to hardships:
1. Know that God loves you.
2. Know that God has a plan for you.
Pain and hardships may have not been a part of God's original plan for you. But God knows how to take pain and hardships and turn them into something good.
3. Know that God will go through it with you.
Another comforting thing to know as you go through hardships and pain is that God is with you. He is not just by your side when life is easy. He walks by your side even when life is hard. And in fact, he might even carry you in his arms when life is hard.
Reality Check Definition:
"Reality Check: A word or phrase used to bring a person back into the life of those around them, sometimes used to smash hopes and dreams." - https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=reality%20check
Inspirational pieces for everybody.
